Why arcade racers feel right at home on mobile

There's something perfect about an arcade racer on a phone. The sessions are short, the controls are simple, and the whole thing is built around a feeling rather than a simulation. Neon Drift Rally reminded me of that this month.

The best of these games understand that fun comes from motion, not menus. A single well-held drift through a glowing corner beats any upgrade grind. When the boost meter fills and you carry a chain through three turns, that's the whole appeal right there.

I switched from tilt controls to tap steering after a few races and never looked back. Tilt feels immersive but tap gives you precision, and on a phone precision usually wins.

If you're picking one up, spend your first hour just learning the drift timing on the easiest track. Chasing leaderboards comes later — first you want the muscle memory.
